Letter! amplifies the performative, media-induced hysteria of a protest by the radical activist group Femen. As part of an ongoing project, which contains drawings on paper and eventually becoming fluid paintings (video). We try to examine the violence through the media without being judgmental or taking sides or offering a moral lesson.

We collect frames from YouTube and TV news broadcasts, print them on A4 paper, and then prime them. We spread a group of "frames", which usually contains around forty sheets and move across the group as we paint on each sheet individually just like in an assembly line.

For this particular work, the process takes place in stages. The first stage is the geometric abstraction where we attempt to equate the background and the foreground through geometry. For example we discover a rhombus-like form composed of a policeman's hand holding a protestor's body in the foreground and a spectator's leg and a passing car in the background. This is a free spontaneous act. The next stage, we repeatedly redraw over and across this assembly line and the geometric shapes, lose their sharp edges and angles and take on a curved and more organic form.

Through the process of repetition, the found geometry in the image morphs into things identifiable by the spectators. The moving images are like drawing with the added element of time; they trace your experience in real time, almost like a body.

The individual dots shifting are like a pulse - they leave with you the experience of a living, breathing thing.
