Constance Nouvel presents her first solo exhibition at the In Situ gallery.
In the framework of Premier Radiant, the artist has deepened her experiments that consist in bringing out the conceptual, plastic and imaginary dimensions of photography.
In her approach, Constance Nouvel explores layers of realities, fragments them and recomposes them. The decisive moment is left aside to the benefit of a gradual appearance of the photographed image. Point by point, the elements that make up the photographic act are rethought in an experimental language.
Premier Radiant opens an additional angle in her research into the relationship between the photograph and space. If sculpture momentarily allowed her a period in which to distance the image from its traditional frame, it returns to the surface of the walls, consequently multiplying the possible interplays of merger between the perception of the real and its photographic material.
The works are unique, as though to lead the spectator to an experience. Through the shaping of objects properly speaking, photographic objectivity is foiled. The idea is no longer that of reproduction but of re-presentation.
Born in 1985, Constance Nouvel lives and works in Paris. Since 2010, she has been developing a group of works whose starting point is the critical analysis of the photograph's characteristics: understanding why and how the photographic process is not simply the reproduction of a real object, but also the image of a tangible reality, opening up the complexities of representation. Her reflections are shown in a plastic and formal language open to the convergence of media disciplines, and leading to the idea of photographic objects. Format, scale and support questions are at the heart of her work and hold a dialogue in a permanent shifting between real space and suggested space.
A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts of Paris, Constance Nouvel has participated in several group exhibitions, notably at the Centre photographique d'Ile-de-France, and had her first solo exhibition at the Centre d'Art de Photographie of Lectoure in 2013. Winner of the Yishu8 Prize, she recently exhibited at the Yishu8-Art Center in Beijing. She has been teaching photography at the École des Beaux-arts de Lorraine-Metz Métropole since 2013.
